The martial arts are a form of self-defense and exercise that focus the mind and the breathing. These arts also stress a sense of responsibility and self-control. They can be taught strictly on a mechanical level as a tool for self-defense and fitness, or on a much deeper level as a mind/body/spirit practice. There are many types, but a few of the better-known practices are Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Judo and Jujusu. Tai Chi is considered a martial art, but it is much more, gentle and slow moving.
